Banasura Sagar Dam is India's First Solar Atop Dam. This Dam is located near Kalpetta at Wayanad in Kerala, India. This dam is part of the Indian Banasurasagar Project. This project consist of dam and a canal project and started in the year 1979.
Banasura Sagar Dam is the largest earth dam in India and the second largest in Asia. The dam is made up of massive stacks of stones and boulders.
Banasura Sagar Dam is situated at the foot of the Banasura Hill. This is an important tourist attraction. The actual missions for this dam was to provide adequate water supply for Kakkayam Dam in Kozhikode as well as to produce electricity and irrigation in Wayanad. Both these missions were not accomplished and currently it's been part of the Hydel project.
