National Sports Day India Birthday of Dhyan Chand

National Sports Day in India is celebrated on 29th August every year. It is celebrated on the birthday of Dhyan Chand (Major Dhyan 'Chand' Singh), a famous Indian hockey player who has won 3 Olympic gold medals for India (1928 Amsterdam, 1932 Los Angeles, 1936 Berlin). Dhyan Chand was also awarded the Padma Bhushan in the year 1956.  Padma Bhushan is India’s third highest civilian honour after the Bharat Ratna and the Padma Vibhushan.
