Sphygmomanometer is a device used to measure blood pressure. In 1881, sphygmomanometer was invented by Samuel Siegfried Karl Ritter von Basch.
This device consists of an inflatable cuff and a mercury manometer to measure the pressure.
Sphygmomanometer can be of both types; manual type and digital meter type.
In manual type a stethoscope is also required for auscultation. In Digital Sphygmomanometers, oscillometric measurements are represented in a digital monitor.
A more easily used version of Sphygmomanometer was introduced by Scipione Riva-Rocci in 1896.
