Kundalatha novel by Appu Nedungadi is considered as the first novel in Malayalam literature. Also spelled Kundalata, Kundalatha Malayalam novel was published in 1887.
However the second novel in Malayalam language Indulekha written by Chandu Menon in 1889 became more popular. This is due to the fact that Kundalatha was regarded as a much inferior work when compared with Indulekha novel by Chandu Menon – which has got all the qualities of a good novel.
